COVID-19 has presented many challenges for businesses around the world, however one that is not making headlines is the impact on company culture. Over the past 12 months we have nearly doubled our people and many of them are based in our offshore markets.

In a normal world, we would have been able to visit our new team members and taught them the secret handshake, however unfortunately that hasn’t been able to happen. Instead, we have had to get creative with our internal communications and have gone above and beyond to ensure that our team is connected with each other and that our offshore staff do not feel isolated.

Below are just a few of the things that we have done at Propspeed to strengthen our culture during these times:

  • Monthly All-Hands meetings, with a special fun challenge as a twist – our next meeting involves our team wearing crazy shirts. Best shirt gets a prize!
  • Revamped new employee induction – all new team members are introduced to every single person within our business, no matter their location or their position. We are a family, and our people need to know and feel that they are supported by everyone in the business.
  • Information sharing hub on Microsoft Teams – we have created a digital hub where our team can share information informally to everyone in the business. It can be anything from a cool story, industry news, a funny meme, or even the classic dad joke.

Join us at the Export Excelerator Conference, where I will share more ideas on building company culture when you a separated by oceans.
