    New Zealand companies doing business with Europe must comply with new rules over the way they manage the personal data of European Union (EU) residents. The rules took effect on 25 May 2018  under the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

    GDPR compliance is not a one-off task. It is an ongoing process. Relevant policies should therefore continuously be monitored and  reviewed

    All companies and organisations that collect, store or use personal data of EU residents need to comply or risk penalties of up to 20 million Euros or 4 percent of global annual turnover.

    The GDPR applies to New Zealand businesses that have an office established in the EU and that process personal data (whether or not that processing takes place in the EU).
