Current outlook from South America: a market overview

Exporters with an interest in South America, and those looking to explore the potential this region offers will not want to miss the opportunity to hear from NZTE’s South American Beachhead Advisor Jorge Forteza and Regional Director for South America Nick Swallow as well as Matthew O’Meagher, Director, Latin America Centre of Asia-Pacific Excellence (CAPE), in Hamilton on Tuesday 13 March.

Jorge Forteza, is actively engaged in both the private and not‐for‐profit sectors throughout South America, where he conducts leadership and advisory activities around his core competencies of strategic management, leadership development, and institutional strengthening. Jorge’s work has been centralised in the Southern Cone of South America, working in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Uruguay. A full biography can be found here.

Jorge Forteza’s presentation will incorporate a mix of high-level economic analysis and overview as well as practical advice and actual business examples on exporting to South America.

Matthew O’Meagher will introduce the Latin America CAPE, a new initiative funded by the Tertiary Education Commission and hosted at Victoria University of Wellington.   The LatAm CAPE adds a new dimension to the development of New Zealand’s knowledge of Latin America and the language skills of New Zealanders, to enhance our economic, trade, political, and cultural relationships with the region.

Nick Swallow has been Regional Director South America since July 2015, helping New Zealand companies ‘grow bigger, better, faster in South America’ from his base in Sao Paulo. Nick’s presentation will provide an insight as to what opportunities are being created throughout Latin America as a result of the CPTPP and New Zealand’s associate membership of the Pacific Alliance.

Following the presentations there will be an opportunity for networking.
